Everton manager Roberto Martinez has rubbished reports Seamus Coleman will leave the club for Manchester United, according to ESPN.

Seamus Coleman

It was claimed in the Press that former Toffees boss David Moyes wanted to take Coleman to Old Trafford this summer in a £15m move. But Martinez has said Coleman has a long-term contract at Goodison Park and there has been no contact from United, nor would he welcome any.

“It must be a different Seamus Coleman, because we've never had any conversations with anyone,” Martinez told a Press conference. “The truth is that Seamus has been having a very good season and we want that to continue.

“He's becoming a very important player at Everton. He's going to be a very important player for his national team. And obviously we want Seamus to stay here for a long time, so it's nothing to comment on.”

Martinez added that Coleman was one of a number of young players at the club he was looking to tie down for the future, with the likes of Ross Barkley, John Stones and James McCarthy also among them.

“We've got a clear strategy as to how we want to keep this group of players together,” Martinez continued. “We've got a new generation coming through, and we're going to keep those players for as long as we can.”

Moyes was the Everton manager who signed Coleman, paying Sligo Rovers £60,000 for the right-back in 2008. Coleman has since gone on to play more than 130 times for Everton, scoring 14 goals, and has 20 Republic of Ireland caps, captaining his country in recent games.
