Hull City striker George Boyd has been handed a three match ban for spitting at Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart, according to Sky Sports.

Boyd was involved in an incident with the City shot stopper during Hull’s 2-0 defeat at the weekend, but was not seen by the officials.

The offence happened in the second half of Saturday’s game as Hull had a penalty appeal turned away when the two players came together at the edge of the area.

The 28-year-old denied an FA charge over the alleged spitting but an Independent Regulatory Commission found him to be guilty and will go ahead with the player’s suspension.

Speaking about the incident, Tigers boss Steve Bruce jumped to his player’s defence, saying that it was not a deliberate spit.

"He has tried to talk and shout and something's come out. That's what I've seen of it,” said Bruce.

"George Boyd wouldn't do that, no chance. Not deliberately, anyway. He is as honest as they come - he was playing non-league six years ago."

Boyd will now miss upcoming games against fellow relegation battlers West Brom, West Ham and Stoke.
