Cardiff vs Liverpool - Premier League preview and team news

Friday 21 March 2014

Liverpool will be looking for their sixth consecutive Premier League win as they make their first ever visit to the Cardiff City Stadium.

The home side were left heartbroken on Merseyside in their last game as they conceded a late goal at Everton, which took away what would have been a valuable point in their bid for Premier League survival. However, the Bluebirds can take great encouragement from their recent performances, with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer undoubtedly provoking a response from the awful performance against Hull City in February.

At present, no team in the Premier League is in better form than Liverpool, and captain Steven Gerrard admitted that they were genuine title contenders after they took Manchester United apart at Old Trafford to ruthlessly capitalise on Chelsea’s defeat the day before. And as they are the highest scorers in the top-flight, they are almost certain to give David Marshall in the Cardiff goal another busy afternoon.

Mark Hudson misses out for Cardiff, who still have slight doubts over fellow defenders Andrew Taylor and Ben Turner.

Lucas Leiva could be given his first start for Liverpool since January, and Mamadou Sakho could also return to the fold, but left-back Jose Enrique is still out.
