Norwich vs Sunderland - Premier League preview and team news

Friday 21 March 2014

Norwich City take on Sunderland at Carrow Road in what is a hugely important fixture in the race for Premier League survival.

After being outplayed for 85 minutes at Southampton in their previous game, Norwich suddenly found themselves in with a chance of claiming a point, but they were unable to complete their comeback. The result meant it was another setback for a side desperately in need of points in their games ahead, with the matches they have to play in the final four weeks of the season beginning to loom large.

Victory for Sunderland would move them to within just a point of their opponents, and could potentially lift them out of the bottom three. They have games in hand, which is an advantage, but they will have been very disappointed not to have beaten relegation rivals Crystal Palace last time out. The Black Cats also have a poor recent record against Norwich, with just one win in the last five meetings.

For Norwich, this game could just come too soon for Jonas Gutierrez, while Elliott Bennett, Leroy Fer and Michael Turner are all definitely unavailable.

Sunderland are set to replace striker Steven Fletcher with Jozy Altidore, after the Scot was forced off with an injury against Crystal Palace.
