West Ham vs Man Utd - Premier League preview and team news

Friday 21 March 2014

Having booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, Manchester United return to Premier League action with a trip to West Ham United.

The home side will be looking to recover from two consecutive defeats, away to Everton and Stoke City, and manager Sam Allardyce will have certainly been disappointed with the goals they conceded at the Britannia Stadium. Despite that, they are still just a couple of victories away from all but confirming a third straight season of Premier League football, and here they will want to make it four home wins in a row.

Man Utd conjured up the perfect response to what was an embarrassing afternoon against Liverpool at Old Trafford, with Robin van Persie netting a hat-trick to keep their European campaign going. It was, without question, the reaction that manager David Moyes needed, after the speculation concerning his future intensified greatly following Sunday’s miserable showing.

West Ham will still be without left-back Joey O’Brien and on-loan striker Marco Borriello for Saturday’s late kick-off.

Meanwhile, Man Utd welcome back Juan Mata after he cup-tied for the second leg against Olympiakos. Nemanja Vidic begins a two-match ban, while Javier Hernandez and Jonathan Evans are both doubtful.
