Manchester United player-coach Ryan Giggs believes the team needs to hit a run of form and end the season on a strong note, ESPN has reported.

United are the reigning Premier League champions but are not in the title race this season. They are currently seventh in the table, 18 points adrift of leaders Chelsea, having finished 11 points clear of Manchester City last season.

City are 12 points ahead of United as it stands now and hold the final Champions League qualification place. United, who progressed to the quarter-finals of this year’s Champions League with a midweek win over Olympiakos are better than they shown for most of the year, Giggs believes.

“You can see why people are saying that because we haven't produced it this season on a regular basis,” he added. “I know from experience what these players are capable of and a lot of them have been written off.

“I think there is a lot of quality within the dressing room. We showed it [against Olympiakos] and we have to show it more consistently.”

Giggs, 40, was given a rare start by manager David Moyes against the Greek side and responded with a performance he says he hopes earns him more appearances before the season’s end.

“I have probably not played as much as I would like in the last few months but hopefully [I will get more games],” Giggs said.
