Man City boss Pellegrini hails Toure
Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has praised midfielder Yaya Toure after hs hat-trick helped the team to a 5-0 victory over Fulham, BBC Sport has reported.
After a slow start against the Premier League’s bottom club, Man City took the lead from the penalty spot before half time when Fernando Amorebieta brought down Alvaro Negredo, with Toure scoring the subsequent penalty. Toure also converted from the spot in the second half after Amorebieta was dismissed for a mistimed lunge on David Silva.
The Ivorian then scored the pick of the goals, curling the ball past visiting goalkeeper David Stockdale from 30 yards, before Fernandinho’s emphatic shot and Martin Demichelis’ close-range finish completed the rout.
And after the game, Pellegrini was full of praise for Toure, who took his tally to 20 goals for the season from midfield and overtook the injured Sergio Aguero as Man City’s highest league scorer. Pellegrini said: "He's a very important player and scoring 20 goals for a midfielder is not easy.
"At the beginning of the season, Toure received some criticism for not defending well, but it's easy to tell him to stay back and not give him freedom."
