Aston Villa captain Vlaar promises improvement

Aston Villa skipper Ron Vlaar has called on his team to improve after they were beaten 4-1 at home by Stoke City on Sunday, the Express and Star has reported.

Ron Vlaar

Christian Benteke gave Villa an early lead only for a superior Stoke to fight back for a convincing away win through goals from Peter Odemwingie, Peter Crouch, Steven N’Zonzi and Geoff Cameron. This was played out in front of the lowest crowd that the hosts have had all season in the Premier League, 30, 292.

That result came just a week after leaders Chelsea were seen off at Villa Park, and a frustrated Vlaar has promised an improved display from his side when they visit Manchester United on Saturday.

The Dutch international defender said: “It’s burning inside of me now. It wasn’t good enough and I’m also frustrated about my own game. It has to be better and I wanted to show I could play. I look forward to the next match and want to play well again for myself and also for the team. We can get a result at Old Trafford, of course.”
