Man Utd vs Man City – Premier League preview and team news

By Stephen Donovan

Tuesday 25 March 2014

Manchester City will be aiming to close the gap to just three points on Premier League leaders Chelsea by winning against bitter rivals Manchester United.

The hosts come into this latest battle buoyed by their last two results in which they have scored five times without reply. Manager David Moyes could even afford to ring the changes at West Ham United and see his side win thanks to Wayne Rooney’s double, as the 28-year-old made up for Robin van Persie’s absence. The question remains however. Can they still do it against the best sides in the Premier League?

For much of the first half against bottom club Fulham, it was a bit of a struggle for Man City, but Yaya Toure’s opening penalty settled them down, before Fernando Amorebieta’s sending off prior to the second spot-kick allowed the floodgates to open. Having added to what is already the division’s best goal difference, City will now be trying to win at Old Trafford for the third successive season.

Man Utd are still without van Persie, and Michael Carrick could continue in central defence with Nemanja Vidic still suspended and Jonathan Evans doubtful as well as Chris Smalling.

Manuel Pellegrini should have Edin Dzeko back available after illness kept him out of the Fulham game. Captain Vincent Kompany returns after a one-match ban.
