Sam Allardyce has said West Ham fans need to realise how difficult the Premier League is after the Hammers were booed despite beating Hull on Wednesday, ESPN has reported.

Allardyce’s team ran out 2-1 winners after James Chester’s own goal but the side was booed at the final whistle, having been booed off at half-time despite leading 1-0. Allardyce said after the match that the reaction of the fans dominated the half-time discussion among the players, unhelpfully, he thought.

“I started at 16, got into the first team at 18 and I'm 59 now and I have never been in place where we have won and got booed,” Allardyce said. “At half-time the players were talking more about fans booing them than the game.

“Fans affect players. We don't need them on the players' backs when we are coming off three defeats. They have to stay and help them win. They are frustrated. I get frustrated. I want the players to play better,” Allardyce went on.

“People are organised, wait for an opportunity to suck you in and expose you, even with 10 men. It's not an easy task and we should all be very grateful.”

The victory leaves West Ham in 11th place, nine points clear of the bottom three and a point and two places better off than the vanquished Tigers.
