Man Utd vs Aston Villa - Premier League preview and team news

Manchester United face mid-table Aston Villa in Saturday’s early kick-off as they look to bounce back from their heavy Manchester derby defeat.

David Moyes’ team were outplayed in all departments on Tuesday. So much so, that they ended up relieved that the final score was only 3-0. It meant the champions have now lost the same number of home games as they have won, a record that the Scot knows must improve between now and the end of the season. Fifth place is the aim, but United are already condemned to their lowest ever Premier League points tally.

After a superb show of resilience and a famous victory over leaders Chelsea, Aston Villa followed that up with a meagre showing against Stoke City, despite taking an early lead. The performance, which lacked urgency and creativity, forced manager Paul Lambert to suggest that his side were not as up for that game as for they were for the Chelsea match. If that was indeed the case, they should have no such problems at Old Trafford.

Looking to avoid only their second home defeat to Villa in the Premier League era, Man Utd are still without Robin van Persie, while Jonathan Evans and Chris Smalling are doubts. Nemanja Vidic returns from suspension.

Aston Villa could be without both Karim El Ahmadi and Andreas Weimann, after they were forced off in the first half against Stoke carrying injuries.
