West Brom vs Cardiff - Premier League preview and team news

The Hawthorns is the venue for a Premier League six-pointer on Saturday as West Bromwich Albion take on fellow strugglers Cardiff City.

West Brom are still perilously placed as they look for their first home win under Pepe Mel, as they sit just three points above their opponents, who lie second from bottom. Their last performance at Hull City did not suggest that the Baggies are going to survive comfortably, as Shane Long demonstrated to them what they are now missing. The hosts now look very short on strikers since they sold the Irishman in January.

Only Crystal Palace have scored less goals than Cardiff, which is the main reason why the Welsh club finds itself in severe danger of losing their Premier League status. However, they did manage three against title-chasing Liverpool in their previous game, but it was not enough to avoid defeat as they could not live with the quick, incisive football that the visitors were playing.

Captain Jonas Olsson completes a two-match ban for West Brom, who are also without Chris Brunt, Billy Jones, Goran Popov and Claudio Yacob.

Cardiff are unable to call upon defender Mark Hudson, while Andrew Taylor and Craig Noone are both slight doubts.
