Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has insisted the outcome of the weekend’s game against Arsenal will not decide the destination of the Premier League title, Sky Sports has reported.

A City victory would take Pellegrini’s team to 69 points, the same tally currently held by leaders Chelsea, and City would still have two games in hand. They would also be six points clear of the Gunners with Arsene Wenger’s side having only six games to play.

But Pellegrini told his pre-match Press conference that nothing will be decided this weekend. “It is not the last match and not the match that will decide the title,” the Chilean added. “Of course it is a big game - it is against a team that is also fighting for the title - but it is a matter of six points, which would be a very important difference.

“If we win on Saturday and win our two games in hand then we can be 12 points on top of Arsenal - that is also a very important difference. A win would be a huge step to continue the way we have been going so far.”

City beat Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium earlier in the season, running out 6-3 winners in December after goals from Sergio Aguero, Alvaro Negredo, David Silva, Yaya Toure and a Fernandinho brace. Two from Theo Walcott and one from Per Mertesacker constituted the Arsenal reply.
