William Carvalho is said to be happy to stay at Sporting Lisbon despite being a target for Manchester United, Sky Sports has reported.

The president of the Portuguese club, Bruno de Carvalho, has denied that the midfielder is looking to leave Sporting for United, Chelsea or Real Madrid, who are said to rival David Moyes’ side for the 21-year-old’s signature.

It had been suggested that representatives from United were at the Sporting training ground this week to discuss a move but de Carvalho dismissed the reports as speculation.

“We are calm although every day there are stories in the papers appearing about the sale of our player,” he told Portuguese television. “Sporting is not a club exclusively just for the sale of players. If a club pays 45m euro then it is not necessary to speak, but I think William does not want to leave Sporting.

“At the moment it is more likely that he will sign a new deal. Personally, I say that the kid is content at Sporting.”
