Rodgers rejects Sherwood's 'pressure' claim
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has disputed claims by his Tottenham Hotspur counterpart Tim Sherwood that the Reds are under pressure as the Premier League title race reaches its climax, Sky Sports has reported.
The sides meet on Sunday at Anfield and Sherwood suggested Liverpool were nervous in the midweek win over Sunderland because they are feeling the pressure of fighting it out at the top.
But Rodgers replied at his pre-match Press conference that the opposite was the case and hinted that Spurs should feel the pressure due to their underachievement this year.
“We're very relaxed, we’re focused,” Rodgers said. “There was no expectation on us being where we are, so there's certainly no pressure.
“I suppose the likes of Tottenham are a team who were maybe looking to be challenging for the league this season. You spend £100m-odd - it's a group that's set up to challenge.
“There's certainly no pressure on ourselves, and I think we've shown that over the course of the season. We're playing with no fear.”
Liverpool are a point behind leaders Chelsea in second place, 12 points clear of Sherwood’s Tottenham, who are fifth. Spurs are a place and a point behind Liverpool’s near neighbours Everton, who play Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday.
