Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has praised his team’s spirit after they came from behind to earn a point against title favourites Manchester City, Sky Sports has reported.

Man City took the lead after 18 minutes when David Silva touched home the rebound after Edin Dzeko’s powerful angled shot had hit the woodwork. That goal allowed them to dictate the rest of the first half, but Arsenal improved considerably in the second.

Mathieu Flamini made amends for his late own goal against Swansea City on Tuesday by turning in a left-wing cross, and from then on, Arsenal looked the most likely winners and came the closest to scoring the decisive goal when Lukas Podolski’s shot was saved by the legs of Man City goalkeeper Joe Hart.

The result kept Arsenal fourth and still vulnerable to an assault from Everton, who are seven points behind them, but Wenger has pleased with his side’s performance. He said: "What happened to us last week was a nightmare and on top of that we scored an own goal against Swansea so the dressing room was really, really flat on Tuesday night.

"I have to say the players were fantastic. The way we responded today with a lot of fight is absolutely marvellous, it shows the team has a really special mental quality.

"When you look at the results today you can see anything can happen. We may be far from the top but you have to continue with this period, and you never know. Sometimes you have to accept that in this league everybody can beat everybody."
