Wenger to be given £100m budget by Arsenal
Arsenal majority shareholder Stan Kroenke is to back manager Arsene Wenger by giving him the largest transfer budget in the club’s history for this summer’s transfer window, according to the Daily Telegraph.
The American businessman remains convinced that Wenger is the right man to lead Arsenal, but the long-serving manager’s long-term future has come under some debate in recent weeks, due to some disappointing results which have rendered hopes of winning the title unlikely, and the fact that the Frenchman is yet to sign a contract extension.
Wenger is also not known to splash the cash. Last summer, Mesut Ozil was brought to the club from Real Madrid for a club record fee, in the region of £42m, but Arsenal’s total spend was still much less than most of their rivals.
Kroenke is now set to provide Wenger with a budget of up to £100m to invest in new players, with Arsenal thought to be targeting Schalke’s highly-rated attacking midfielder Julian Draxler, and 21-year-old Nuremberg striker Josip Drmic.
