Man City vs Southampton - Premier League preview and team news

Friday 04 April 2014

Manchester City will be aiming to move to within one point of Premier League leaders Liverpool by seeing of Southampton at the Etihad Stadium.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini will be highly satisfied with his side’s recent points haul, after a run of games which has involved difficult trips to Manchester United and Arsenal.

The Citizens seemed to be in cruise control at Arsenal as they went in for half time, only for the hosts to improve in the second half and claim a deserved point. The result meant that Man City now know that victory in all eight of their remaining games will see them reclaim the title they won in 2012.

Yet to lose against Man City as a manager, Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino and his vibrant young team will be looking to dent their title aspirations. The Saints come into this match off the back of possibly their best performance of the season as they won 4-0 at home to Newcastle United, a game where Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Jay Rodriguez did their England World Cup chances no harm whatsoever.

Matija Nastasic is still out for Man City along with Micah Richards, but striker Sergio Aguero could be fit enough to make the substitutes’ bench.

Calum Chambers will continue to deputise for the injured Nathaniel Clyne at right-back for the away side, who are also without Kelvin Davis and Maya Yoshida.
