Newcastle United will be looking to bounce back from two heavy defeats when Manchester United travel to St. James’ Park.

For the hosts, things can only get better after they were put to the sword by Everton and Southampton. On the South coast in particular, they were desperately poor and barely created a chance, and they ended up feeling relieved that they had only lost by four. After a brief upturn in form, the Magpies’ season once again appears to be fizzling out, so manager Alan Pardew will be hoping they will be roused by a visit from the champions.

Man Utd may have more than half an eye on the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie with Bayern Munich as they take to the pitch on Tyneside. The performance in the first leg was highly encouraging and the Red Devils will believe that they will have a chance in Germany, but the aim in the Premier League will be to secure a place in the top six.

The home side have several injury concerns including goalkeeper Tim Krul, striker Loic Remy, right-back Mathieu Debuchy and midfielder Moussa Sissoko.

Rafael da Silva, Chris Smalling and Ryan Giggs are all slight doubts for Man Utd, who continue to be without Robin van Persie.
