Swansea 'want to build around Bony'
Swansea City Head Coach Garry Monk has said the club intends to build the team around striker Wilfried Bony, despite interest from other clubs, ITV Sport has reported.
Bony moved to Swansea last summer from Vitesse Arnhem and has hit 20 goals so far this season in all competitions. The 25-year-old is expected to line-up for Ivory Coast at the World Cup this summer and Monk has told a Press conference that regardless of possible suitors, Swansea see Bony as an integral part of their future.
“It may be that there is interest, but you could say that about players in every team,” Monk said. Wilf is a Swansea player and we want him here.
“He is an important player for us, and I think he has got a good relationship with our crowd now. They have warmed to him, and he is really enjoying his time with us.
“We want him as part of our future. We want to build a team around him and players like him, and the good thing is that we are not a selling club.”
Monk added that he isn’t concerned with the prospect of interest in the forward increasing should he impress in Brazil. “We want as many of our players to go to the World Cup as possible,” Monk said.
“I hope Wilf goes out there, does really well and then comes back here full of confidence.”
