Moyes delighted as Mata stars in Man Utd win

Manchester United manager David Moyes has hailed his side’s performance at Newcastle United on Saturday as ‘perfect’, as they won 4-0 to move up to sixth in the Premier League, writes Sky Sports.

Juan Mata

Juan Mata, who is ineligible for Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-final second leg tie against Bayern Munich, scored twice and created another as the Red Devils condemned the hosts to their third consecutive heavy defeat.

First, the Spaniard fired past Rob Elliot from a 25-yard free-kick following Dan Gosling’s mistimed challenge on Darren Fletcher. In the second half he doubled the lead with composed finish before Javier Hernandez turned the ball home for his second goal in as many Premier League matches.

Mata then set up Adnan Januzaj for the fourth goal, and Moyes was delighted after the game with the performance of his much-changed side. He said: "It was a perfect performance in the Premier League, which is most important. We didn't start the game as well as I'd have liked but after the first 20 or 30 minutes we got to grips with it and there were some really good performances."

On Mata’s impact at the club, the Scot added: "I think he has been terrific. I also bought him for his goals, and in the first five or six games he didn't score, but his two goals today and his assist, he has made a big contribution. He has made us better."
