Chelsea favourites to seal Mandzukic signing

Sunday 06 April 2014

Croatia international Mario Mandzukic could be set for a summer move to Stamford Bridge in a deal thought to be worth £20m, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

Representatives of the striker are reported to have travelled to London recently, and despite reports linking him to Arsenal, it is believed that they met with Chelsea officials to discuss a potential deal.

There had been suggestions that the striker was surplus to requirements at the Allianz Arena but Bayern chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has moved to say any deal will not be a cut price deal.

“We want him to stay, and I remain fairly confident he will,” said Rummenigge. “But I know that many clubs throughout Europe want him, and that is not surprising. You only have to look at his scoring record to see his quality, so we will see what happens.”

Mandzukic arrived at Munich two years ago and is one of the lowest earners at the club - albeit £80,000 a week, and is reportedly keen to boost his salary and gain regular first team football.

Mourinho has made it repeatedly clear that striking options will be his main focus come the summer transfer window and Mandzukic could now look a likely target.

While Bayern will not let the Croatian leave on the cheap, he will move down the pecking order at the German club when Robert Lewandowski joins in the summer.
