Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has admitted that he will ask owner Randy Lerner about the possibility of making extra transfer funds available this summer to deal with the club’s injury crisis, reports the Birmingham Mail.

Top scorer Christian Benteke recently sustained an Achilles tendon injury which will keep him out for the rest of the season as well as this summer’s World Cup. Fellow striker Libor Kozak and defender Jores Okore are also long-term absentees, while Gabriel Agbonlahor, Fabian Delph and Karim El Ahmadi are three more to have struggled with injuries of late.

While Lambert insists the problems are nothing to do with the club’s training methods, he is hoping to add depth to the squad over the summer to help deal with the club’s injury problems.

Since taking charge at Villa in the summer of 2012, the Scot has not been given a large amount of money to spend, due to Lerner feeling that he was unable to compete with the massive amounts of money spent by other clubs, but Lambert in talks with the American businessman ahead of his summer of transfer activity.

“If you go through them, Okore is nearly a full season, Kozak virtually half-a-season, Benteke six months or so and Charles, so they’ve been major, major injuries, they’re not just strains or anything,” said Lambert.

“As well as Christian, we were without Gabby and Fabian. It’s a big chunk and if you throw in El Ahmadi as well because he’s been playing really well of late. That’s four lads that have been playing virtually the whole season for us and when you lose that it is a big chunk to lose.

“I think a club this size needs a big squad and these conversations will happen probably in a few weeks’ time. I spoke to Randy on Friday and he knows the situation with Christian. I think the most important thing is to get through this season and then there will be time to sit with Paul Faulkner and Randy and see what’s happening.

“There’s always been injuries, but that’s part and parcel of the game. But when you lose four of them that’s a big chunk out of our side.”

Give him more money? Why ? so he can go out and buy more rubbish. Randy spend your money better and get in a manager who can cope in this league and understands the sort of players that are needed, youth plus experience, and slowly. not strip back and put a whole load of inexperience in the team. Worst Villa stats ever I would think.
