Fletcher hails Mata United impact

Darren Fletcher believes the January arrival of Spaniard Juan Mata has been the highlight of an otherwise disappointing season and will no doubt make an even bigger impact next term, reports Sky Sports.

Playmaker Mata swapped Stamford Bridge for Old Trafford in a £37.1m transfer after falling down Jose Mourinho’s pecking order, has impressed in the red of United and netted twice in their win over Newcastle at the weekend.

Despite their win they sit sixth in the Premier League and will lose their crown to one of their bitter rivals at the end of the season.

However Scotland international Fletcher believes the acquisition of a player such as Mata stands them in good stead for next season.

Fletcher said: “There is so much quality in that dressing room and players are going out there with a point to prove.

“It's been a disappointing season but he has come in and been fantastic.

Juan's a classic No 10, controlling games with an eye for the killer pass or he can slow it down with two or three touches.

"He gives you a bit of everything, composure, intelligence, assists and goals.”

The Spanish star has become renowned for his quality on the ball, with a highlight reel of high calibre goals for Chelsea, as well as his work rate off it and Fletcher insists he is still improving and can play even better.

However United will be without the midfielder for their second leg Champions League tie against Bayern Munich as he is cup tied.
