Everton manager Roberto Martinez believes Seamus Coleman is one of the best full-backs in the world, Sky Sports has reported.

Seamus Coleman

The Republic of Ireland defender has been a regular feature in the Toffees’ team under Martinez this season, scoring seven goals in the process. He was part of the XI that beat Arsenal 3-0 on Sunday and caught the eye with a display of bull-juggling after intercepting an Arsenal pass and a turn that left Santi Cazorla standing.

Martinez believes the two incidents are examples of what has made Coleman such an impressive performer this season. “It's that good arrogance - the footballing arrogance,” the manager said.

“You can't teach that,” Martinez continued. “Seamus has had that for a long, long time, it's just being able to express himself like that on top of all his duties and the responsible things he has to do for the team.

“Seamus is a good example of a footballer with an incredible attitude and appetite for the game. He grows month by month. He's one of the best full-backs in world football.”

Martinez also deflected any praise sent his way for the development of the 25-year-old. “I haven't done anything to coax that out of him per se,” the former Wigan Athletic boss continued. “He knows his potential. He plays in a demanding position which needs you to be so good in many areas.

“Seamus has got all the attributes so it's just carrying on making the right decisions week in, week out and performing like he has. He influenced John Stones and young men around him.”
