The Football Association have rejected Hull City’s proposed name change to the Hull Tigers, according to BBC Sport.

Hull City

The FA council made the decision that the name would not change following a recommendation by the governing body’s membership committee, and passed a vote of 63.5%.

Club owner Assem Allam took charge of Hull in 2010 and had wanted to change the name of the club to make it more marketable and had previously threatened to quit if he was not allowed to change the 110-year-old name.

According to the Council they did not take into account the result of a poll carried out by the club which narrowly backed the name change by supporters.

In a vote, 2,565 fans voted to incorporate the nickname of Hull Tigers whilst 2,517 fans voted against the proposal, whilst 792 voted indifferently and another 9,159 did not vote.

Hull City supporters group ‘City Till We Die’ said that they were ‘delighted’ with the decision after previously opposing the owner’s move to change the club.
