Schurrle praise for 'patient' Mourinho

Chelsea forward Andre Schurrle has hailed his manager and team mates after their dramatic last gasp Champions League triumph and admitted some left him in awe, Sky Sports has reported.

The Blues, who won the competition back in 2012, also in dramatic fashion, secured the 2-0 victory they needed to progress to the semi finals after Demba Ba’s last minute strike.

And Schurrle, who replaced Belgian Eden Hazard early in the first half has admitted that the occasion and atmosphere inside Stamford Bridge was all new to him.

The German international said: “I came here to be involved in games like this and be with a team who have what it takes to go through.

“If you have John Terry and Frank Lampard on the pitch, they've seen everything in football. It gives you a good feeling, because they know what to do.”

Mourinho has been credited with a big part in the win and performance by the German, saying his advice and meetings before the game were key to their success, alongside a slightly more adventurous side to their play.

“Before the game, we said that we had to play like we always do. A little bit more risk, maybe, because we needed to score,” Schurrle added.

"But the boss said that we needed to be patient because we could score at any time. We wanted to score in the first half because then we had all the options. But after that we needed patience, because everybody wanted to go, go, go.

"The manager said it didn't matter if we scored in the 46th minute or the 90th minute. And that's what we did."

Chelsea will face a tough test against any of the teams they could draw, with Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Athletico Madrid all in the semi final hat.
