Fletcher: Man Utd squad fighting for futures
Darren Fletcher has said Manchester United’s players are fighting for their future at the Premier League club ahead of an anticipated summer overhaul from manager David Moyes, Sky Sports has reported.
United exited the Champions League on Wednesday night, going down 4-2 on aggregate to holders Bayern Munich, and are seven points adrift of the top four place that would see them qualify for next year’s competition via their league placing.
Fletcher believes Moyes will look to imprint his own stamp on the squad left to him by Sir Alex Ferguson and expects a number of departures from Old Trafford before next season begins.
“The boys have got to play well to stay in the manager's thoughts for next season,” Fletcher said. “There is talk of a lot of changes so if you get an opportunity to play you have to go out there and perform and to show the manager that you want to be at United, that you are capable of being at United and you are good enough.
“A lot of people will say there isn't a lot to play for now, but there is - you are playing for personal pride and to be in the squad for next season.”
Should United fail to qualify for the Champions League it will be the first time since 1995 that they have missed out on a place in the tournament.
