Magath to keep faith in Fulham youngsters
Fulham manager Felix Magath has said he will persist with the club’s young players despite the Cottagers’ perilous Premier League position, Sky Sports has reported.
Magath has fielded the likes of Cauley Woodrow, Moussa Dembele and Patrick Roberts in recent games and the Fulham youth team is through to the FA Youth Cup final. Magath told a Press conference that he has always been keen to blood youngsters and isn’t going to change his approach now.
“I always take care of the youth, of young players,” Magath said. “For me it's normal to use young players. I will not show them but I'm convinced they realise that I'm not afraid to take young players so I hope they will see it and it helps them to improve.
“I was there [at the semi-final victory]. I crossed my fingers and I was very glad of the performance of the youth team. We have a London final [Fulham will play Arsenal or Chelsea] so we hope the champions will be Fulham.”
Fulham’s opponents this weekend, Norwich City, are the current holders of the FA Youth Cup and recently sacked manager Chris Hughton, replacing him with youth team boss Neil Adams.
There are five points and one place separating Fulham from the Canaries, with Norwich outside the relegation zone and Fulham holding the final place in the bottom three.
Hughton was sacked after Norwich lost at home to fellow strugglers West Bromwich Albion on the same weekend Fulham won away at Aston Villa.
