Poyet unsure of Giaccherini future
Sunderland manager Gus Poyet has said that he is unsure where the future of striker Emanuele Giaccherini lies, according to Sky Sports.
The forward has struggled since arriving at the Stadium of Light from Juventus in the summer, with only three goals to show this season.
Despite the Italy international’s disappointing return, Poyet has refused to make any decisions on his future with Premier League survival still in sight.
"It's too soon to be talking about that because nobody knows really," said Poyet.
"I'm surprised they're talking about it so early, because the season isn't finished."
The 28-year-old has not started a game for the club since New Year’s Day and in recent matches has failed to make the bench.
Although his exclusion from the squad will undoubtedly raise questions about his future with Sunderland, the Uruguayan boss claims that he was left out purely for tactical reasons.
"When I planned the team (for West Ham and Spurs) I changed the bench a little bit," Poyet added.
"Normally, I would always put on a couple of strikers, couple of midfielders, a full-back and a centre-back - depending on the shape. But I think it's time to take a risk.
"We're trying to make the bench in a certain way and sometimes we have three strikers on there."
