Man City captain Kompany could miss Liverpool encounter
Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany is a slight doubt for Manchester City ahead of their game at Liverpool after picking up an injury in training on Saturday, Goal.com has reported.
The Belgian landed awkwardly in a challenge with fellow defender Micah Richards while the team practised set-pieces, and missed the rest of the training session as a precaution. The Man City medical team will now assess Kompany, although they currently expect him to be fit for Sunday’s massive game at Anfield.
Should he miss out, however, it would be a major blow against the Premier League’s top scorers. With Matija Nastasic sidelined, either the out-of-favour Joleon Lescott, or Javi Garcia will deputise at the back to play alongside Martin Demichelis.
Kompany has struggled with injuries throughout the campaign, and has only appeared in 21 of Man City’s 31 Premier League matches this season.
The Citizens come into this game against the league leaders knowing that defeat would leave them seven points behind Liverpool, albeit with two games in hand. Fellow title rivals Chelsea are in action at Swansea City later on Sunday.
