Fulham manager Felix Magath has declared that his side were lucky to defeat Norwich City in a crucial game between two sides battling for survival, writes the club’s official website.

Hugo Rodallega scored the all-important goal to move Fulham up to within just two points of safety, firing into the roof of the net from close range after a free-kick had been flicked on by the head of Steve Sidwell.

The Cottagers were indebted to goalkeeper David Stockdale as well as some last-ditch defending for keeping the visitors at bay. Despite having numerous chances, Norwich failed to make the breakthrough with Stockdale saving expertly from Ricky van Wolfswinkel, Leroy Fer and Robert Snodgrass.

After the game, Magath admitted his side were second best, but declared that the result was what counted the most. “Over the whole 90 minutes today we are very lucky because Norwich was the better team and they played very well,” Magath said. “We were not so good today but you see there was a lot of pressure on the players so we didn’t play as well as last week

“But, at the moment, three points is the only thing that counts. Today I’m very kaput because it was a very dramatic 90 minutes. “It is a tough situation for Norwich but we have to take care because we have to make our points,” he said. “We’ve had two wins in a row and that’s very nice but it’s not enough to stay up in the league. So we have to take care that we make more points and, if we can, we have to do that next week at Tottenham.

“I still had hope in the last weeks. I was hopeful that we are able to manage the situation to win some games and now we have won two games in a row, and that helps us to be confident. Now there are more people who think we will stay in the league than there were four weeks ago.”
