Hull vs Sheffield United - Match preview and team news
League One Sheffield United will attempt to sensationally reach the final of the FA Cup when the play Premier League side Hull City at Wembley.
Hull will undoubtedly be the favourites, and they will never have a better chance of reaching their first ever final of the world’s oldest cup competition. Somewhat unfortunately, the saga over the club’s proposed name change to Hull Tigers has overshadowed their build-up to this game, with the FA rejecting their bid to do so on Wednesday.
On the pitch, Nikica Jelavic and Shane Long have significantly increased Hull’s attacking options, but they will be missing on Sunday as both are cup-tied. It is a chance for the likes of Matt Fryatt and Yannick Sagbo to impress, and with his side now virtually safe in the Premier League, manager Steve Bruce knows he can throw everything at this one.
Meanwhile, counterpart Nigel Clough has had his eyes firmly on this tie since leading them to a comfortable quarter-final victory over Charlton Athletic. With his side comfortably in mid-table in League One, Clough has had the luxury of being able to make considerable changes to his starting XI, but that has not affected results significantly.
The Blades’ main threat comes from wide areas, with Ryan Flynn, Jamie Murphy and John Brayford all very capable of causing Hull problems. Both sides though have strong defences, meaning there could be little to separate them at the final whistle.
Aside from Jelavic and Long, Hull are still without Robbie Brady, Joe Dudgeon, Paul McShane and Allan McGregor.
Sheffield United are set to make several changes from Tuesday’s win over Yorkshire rivals Rotherham United. Loan players Conor Coady and Kieran Freeman are both eligible to play.
