Hamann: Gerrard deserves Premier League title

Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann believes that club captain Steven Gerrard deserves to win the Premier League title, according to Sky Sports.

The England captain was overcome with emotional after his side beat title rivals Manchester City 3-2 at Anfield on Sunday and move further ahead at the top of the Premier League table.

Now with just four games remaining for the Reds, they have the title in their own hands and Hamann believes that Gerrard is the man to lead them to their first league title since 1990.

"You have seen how much it means to him with his reaction - pulling the lads together, telling them not to get complacent and to carry on doing the same for the last four games," said Hamann.

"I've never seen him as emotional and as contagious. The Premier League is the only trophy he's not won with Liverpool and it would be a fitting tribute to his Anfield career if they win the title.

"They have a terrific chance now - it's in their hands. They have difficult games against Norwich and then Chelsea but they're very close to the finishing line now. After 10 straight wins confidence is sky high and I wouldn't put it past them to go and win it."

Despite the impressive victory over their rivals, the Merseyside club lost Jordan Henderson to a red card, meaning he will miss three of the last four games, including a possible title deciding game against Chelsea.

Hamann believes it will be a tough run-in for every side as we approach the final stretch and each side will have their own issues to overcome to be champions.

"Henderson will be a massive miss. He's had a terrific season, scored goals and gives them tremendous energy in midfield,” added Hamann.

"Joe Allen will probably come in and he did well when he came on, but you want to play your best players and keep a settled team. Liverpool don't have a big squad and Sturridge might be missing too so it's not all rosy."
