Juan Mata believes that Man United effectively have five cup finals left this season if they are to salvage anything from what has been a considerably lackluster campaign so far, according to The Daily Star.

David Moyes’ men still mathematically have an outside chance of making the Champions League, but they will have to be on absolute top form if they are to reach the tournament for what would be a 15th consecutive season.

The former Chelsea midfielder, 25, acknowledged the threat Everton pose, and was keen to emphasise the good season the Toffees have enjoyed under new manager Roberto Martinez, who took over at Goodison Park when Moyes departed Merseyside for Manchester last summer.

Mata said: “We have five finals to play in the Premiership and we will try to win all of them to get as many points as possible.

“The first one, against Everton. They are having a spectacular season; it's a very dangerous squad, even more at home.”

Everton beat United 1-0 when the two sides faced off at Old Trafford in December to mark the Blues’ first win at the stadium in 21 years, and by the time the game rolls around a week on Sunday – United’s next Premier League outing – Martinez’s men could potentially be 12 points ahead of their former manager in the table.
