Everton will resist any moves for youngster Stones, with Arsenal and Chelsea interested

Arsenal and Chelsea are heading the queue to sign coveted Everton youngster John Stones, but the Toffees are not keen on doing business according to The Daily Mail.

John Stones

The 19-year-old only joined the Toffees in January 2013, but his impressive performances have led to speculation that the former Barnsley youngster could be an outside bet for Roy Hodgson’s World Cup training squad, and Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger are thought to be keen to add him to their ranks in a bid to bolster their respective defensive lineups.

Wenger in particular is thought to be keen on Stones’ ability to guide the ball out of defence, and while Chelsea have youngsters already making their way towards the first team it is believed Stones’ experience would put him ahead in the pecking order, but it is thought that either club would have difficulty prising the youngster away from Goodison Park.

With Roberto Martinez’s men looking to continue their improvement and make moves towards eventual Champions League football, the Toffees are unlikely to want to even consider business, meaning a monumental offer would be required in order to even get the Merseysiders to consider negotiations. Despite already having Premier League experience, it seems unlikely that either side would be willing to risk the kind of money it would take, and if Everton can continue to utilise their additional TV revenue in strengthening the squad and soon offer top-level European football then it may prove even more difficult in future for clubs to tempt the youngster away from the north west.
