Arsenal chief executive Gazidis unhappy with FA Cup Final ticket allocation

Arsenal's chief executive Ivan Gazidis has aired his dissatisfaction at the allocation of tickets to this season’s FA Cup Final, which he believes will leave a large section of Arsenal fans unable to participate in the spectacle, according to Sky Sports.

Ivan Gazidis & Arsene Wenger

Arsenal and their opponents on 17th May, Hull, will each be allocated 25,000 tickets – just over half the number of Gunners fans who turned out to watch the north Londoners reach that milestone by beating cup holders Wigan on penalties on 12th April, where 49,000 faces cheered on their heroes in an effort to bolster the former Premier League champions’ hopes of ending their nine-year wait for silverware.

With the Club Wembley membership package gaining an allocation, as well as the FA’s “football family” – which includes county organisations and charities, as well as other English league clubs – the total number of official supporters for each club will be 50,000, and Gazidis says this is a disappointment.

“We fully understand this is the showpiece FA fixture to celebrate the game as a whole but we also believe the loyal supporters of the competing teams deserve a greater chance to see their team play in what is one of the biggest matches of the season,” said the 49-year-old.

“They all give us their loyal support throughout a season but with the FA Cup final allocation at 25,000 there will be many disappointed Arsenal fans who have supported the club home and away for years who will be unable to get a ticket to this historic match.”

The Gunners have indicated that the game will be shown live on a big screen at the Emirates for those supporters who aren’t able to obtain tickets, with the chief executive adding: “We want this to be a special day for Arsenal fans wherever they are, and the screening will be a great way for thousands of our supporters who are unable to get to Wembley to watch the match together at Emirates Stadium.”

Arsenal last won a Cup Final game at Wembley in 1998, with their most recent cup triumph – against Newcastle in 2005 – coming at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium. They did reach Wembley in 2011, but lost the League Cup Final against Birmingham in a shock result.

Their wait for a trophy has been well documented, but with an FA Cup Final appearance approaching the supporters will surely be hoping this is finally their year.
