Everton vs Crystal Palace - Premier League preview and team news

Wednesday 16 April 2014

Everton will be aiming to return to fourth place as they host Crystal Palace in a meeting of two sides in fine form.

An own goal by Sunderland’s Wes Brown gave Roberto Martinez’ team a seventh straight Premier League win, giving them the chance to make a fantastic season at Goodison Park even better by making the Champions League. With Arsenal getting the better of West Ham United on Tuesday, the pressure is back on the Toffees, who undoubtedly have a tougher looking run-in than the North London club.

Martinez has done a magnificent job so far at Everton, but Tony Pulis has worked miracles with Crystal Palace, lifting them from apparent no-hopers to mid-table security. The biggest improvement has been in defence, where they have been hard to break down, solidity which has provided the foundations for a run of three successive wins that has all but guaranteed another season of Premier League football.

Steven Pienaar will still be out for Everton, as will Phil Jagielka, so John Stones will continue to play in central defence.

Crystal Palace will hand fitness tests to Yannick Bolasie and Kagisho Dikgacoi, who both have knocks. Should they not make it, Marouane Chamakh and Thomas Ince could replace them.
