Draw a disaster for Man City, says Fernandinho

Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho didn’t mince his words when reflecting on Wednesday’s 2-2 draw with Sunderland, Sky Sports reporting that the Brazil international described the result as a “complete disaster” for the Premier League title challengers.

Fernandinho

City went ahead early through Fernandinho before a second-half brace from Connor Wickham but the Black Cats in front with seven minutes to play. A Samir Nasri goal two minutes from time - that came about when Sunderland goalkeeper Vito Mannone couldn’t hold his former Arsenal teammate’s shot - salvaged a point.

Fernandinho feels, however, that a point was not enough as City try to chase down leaders Liverpool. “It's a very disappointing result,” the former Shakhtar Donetsk player said. “The whole team is disappointed about the result, especially in the way we played. The result was a complete disaster for us.

“We started well and scored the goal, but for 50 minutes after that we lost control of the game and they played better than us. Right at the end we tried to score another goal but it wasn't enough.

“We scored after two minutes but then changed our style of game and paid for it. They had three clear chances in the first half and then scored two in the second half, when we lost our position on the pitch.

“We need to keep our heads up and think about the next game, when we cannot make a silly mistake, as we did.”

City are six points behind the Reds but have played one game fewer, 33 to Liverpool’s 34. Chelsea currently separate the sides, leading City by four points but trailing Liverpool by two, with Liverpool to host Chelsea at Anfield before the end of the season.
