Cardiff vs Stoke - Premier League preview and team news

Cardiff City will be looking to give themselves a fighting chance of avoiding relegation with a win at home to mid-table Stoke City.

An unexpected victory at Southampton last time out has raised the Welsh club’s spirits considerably after some demoralising results in recent weeks. Juan Cala’s wonderful strike was a suitable reward for their defensive solidity at a difficult venue. There is still plenty of work to be done, however, and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be keen for the Bluebirds not to allow this latest home game pass them by.

Ahead of their first visit to the Cardiff City Stadium, Stoke are beginning to look as strong as they have ever been during their six-season stay in the Premier League, winning four of their last five games, albeit with a slice of luck against Newcastle United.

Typical defensive solidity remains, but the signing of Peter Odemwingie from Cardiff in January has turned out to be a marvelous piece of business, and the Nigerian would love to score against his former club here.

Mark Hudson and Craig Noone are still out for Cardiff, who have doubts over youngster Declan John and striker Kenwyne Jones, who was exchanged as part of the Odemwingie deal.

Stoke midfielder Charlie Adam has undergone surgery on a broken nose and is a doubt. Oussama Assaidi and Matthew Etherington are definitely out along with Robert Huth.
