Newcastle vs Swansea - Premier League preview and team news

By Stephen Donovan

Friday 18 April 2014

Swansea City will be hoping to ease their relegation fears with a crucial victory away to out-of-form Newcastle United on Saturday.

Despite never being involved in a relegation battle, there has been a lot of unrest around at Newcastle this season, and recent results have only seen it intensify. Another defeat and another game without hitting the back of the net at Stoke City last time out even led to some supporters to call for manager Alan Pardew to leave. As the 52-year-old prepares to serve the last game of his touchline ban, the Magpies’ season is fizzling out badly.

Victory for Newcastle would give them respite, but in the context of the Premier League table, it is Swansea who need the win more, lying just three points above the drop zone after Sunday’s defeat to Chelsea. The early sending off of Chico Flores left the Swans with an uphill task, but they applied themselves extremely well and looked more than capable of preserving their place among the elite.

Newcastle are hopeful that key players Mathieu Debuchy, Loic Remy and Moussa Sissoko can make a return, but Hatem Ben Arfa is set to miss out due to a dead leg.

Flores begins a two-match ban after his dismissal, so Jordi Amat is likely to come in. Swansea also hope to have Miguel Michu back after he missed the game against Chelsea.
