Everton vs Man Utd - Premier League preview and team news
David Moyes returns to Goodison Park for the first time since becoming Manchester United boss, and will attempt to put another dent into former club Everton’s chances of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.
Much has been said about the reception the Scot will get from the Everton supporters, who have certainly seen progress made under successor Roberto Martinez, but Wednesday’s shock home defeat to Crystal Palace was a major setback. Despite some late pressure which almost saw them salvage a point, some uncharacteristically poor defending proved costly, and handed the initiative back to Arsenal in the race for the top four.
Moyes has had his critics during his first season with the 13-time Premier League champions, but his record away from Old Trafford is superb. No other top-flight team has picked up more points on the road, with the last victory coming in emphatic fashion at Newcastle United, where Juan Mata showed his quality. The Spaniard’s absence was sorely missed as they were eventually outclassed by Bayern Munich in the Champions League last time out.
For Everton, Phil Jagielka is unlikely to be risked, so John Stones is set to continue at centre-back. Steven Pienaar could return after several weeks out of action.
Man Utd duo Marouane Fellaini and Wayne Rooney should be fit enough to face their former club after recovering from minor knocks, but Rafael da Silva misses out with a thigh injury.
