Midfielder Gareth Barry is keen to make his loan move from Manchester City to Everton permanent over the summer, according to the Daily Mail.

Gareth Barry

The England international is set to play his final home game of his loan spell on Sunday, as Everton take on Manchester United, as he is ineligible to face his parent club when they visit Goodison Park on the penultimate weekend of the season.

Barry has impressed since making the move to Merseyside, striking up an effective midfield partnership with James McCarthy. Overall he has made 34 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals, and with his contract at Man City set to expire this summer, Everton are keen to secure the 33-year-old for 2014-15.

The only potential stumbling block is that Barry’s wages may prove too expensive for Everton, but the player is hopeful a making the move. ‘If the club offer me a contract and show me they want me, then it is a possibility,’ he said.

‘It won’t be a case of waving to the fans on Sunday. That would be like saying goodbye before I’ve made any decision. I’m just desperate to finish the season on a high.

‘Roberto has been brilliant. I’ve learned so much from him, he’s got great ideas all the time that are ahead of the game. Even at 33, I’m still learning tactical stuff from him.’
