Arsenal have opened contract talks with defender Laurent Koscielny, who is now set to become the latest player this season to commit their future to the club, the Independent has reported.

Three of the Frenchman’s teammates - Santi Cazorla, Per Mertesacker and Tomas Rosicky - have all signed contract extensions over the past two months, and Koscielny now appears set to join them, despite having three years still to run on his current deal.

The new contract is likely to see the 28-year-old receive £90,000 per week and become one of Arsenal’s top earners, which the club believe will help stave off reported interest from some of Europe’s top clubs, including Paris St. Germain, European champions Bayern Munich, and Premier League rivals Manchester United.

Koscielny moved to the Emirates Stadium in the summer of 2010 as a replacement for the Tottenham-bound William Gallas. Since then, he has made 160 appearances in all competitions, scoring 11 goals. This season, he has helped the Gunners to the FA Cup final, and has established a successful central defensive partnership with Per Mertesacker.
