Errors cost Newcastle, admits Pardew

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has admitted that defensive errors were the reason why his side slipped to a fifth consecutive defeat on Saturday, 2-1 at home to Swansea City, Sky Sports has reported.

The Magpies did take the lead through Shola Ameobi, who held off the attentions of two Swansea defenders to slide the ball past goalkeeper Michel Vorm, but Wilfried Bony beat Mike Williamson in the air to head home a corner on the stroke of half time.

And as the game looked set to be heading for a draw, a Swansea counter-attack led to Marvin Emnes being fouled by Cheick Tiote, with Bony converting the resulting spot-kick, leading to a mass exodus of Newcastle supporters.

After the game, the under-fire Pardew declared that mistakes were to blame for this latest defeat. He said: "We suffered two injuries at the start of the game which affected us no doubt and knocked us out of our gameplan to an extent.

"We were committed today, we showed some nice moments, we got the goal, but two errors at the end of each half cost us and they are costly because it's our fifth defeat.

"We have been beaten by some good teams and we've probably not been good enough but today we were good enough to win this game and we should have come out of it with at least a point and I thought we should have won it.

"But as a team we have made some errors and it has cost us, Swansea got a break at the end of each half and they have capitalised through that."
