Newcastle striker Cisse facing months out
Newcastle United striker Papiss Cisse is set for several months on the sidelines after suffering a broken kneecap in the 2-1 defeat to Swansea City on Saturday, the Daily Star has reported.
The Senegal international will definitely miss the last three games of this season, but could be out for the beginning of 2014-15, and he is unlikely to take part in the club’s pre-season. He was forced off early on against Swansea and now a scan has revealed that he requires surgery.
The Star claims that Newcastle manager Alan Pardew was hoping to cash in on Cisse during the summer after two seasons of struggle. The man signed from Freiburg in January 2012 has only scored twice in the Premier League all season. However, the injury is likely to put off any potential suitors.
Despite Pardew’s attempts to offload Cisse, this lengthy spell on the sidelines now means that Newcastle are set to be short on striking options ahead of next season unless they recruit heavily. Loan duo Luuk De Jong and Loic Remy are unlikely to return for next season, while Shola Ameobi is soon to be out of contract.
