Aston Villa midfielder Yacouba Sylla wants to return to his native France on a season-long loan following the conclusion of the current campaign, according to Sky Sports.

Sylla has not been able to make as much of an impact as he would have liked since arriving at Villa Park in January 2013 from Clermont Foot, signing a three-and-a-half year deal, and told Football France that he wants to go home for a year in the summer.

“There are a lot of teams I could contribute to," said the 23-year-old.

“I think I will leave on loan at the end of the season. I could already have done so in December but the gaffer told me that he was counting on me. What I want, is to come back to France, on loan for one year to a good club, a team with a good project.

“My agent Moussa Sissoko is working for that and there are interested clubs. Again, the most important thing for me is to play. I am no longer the same man, not the same player. I cannot wait to change all that again.”

Sylla has not appeared in the starting 11 since a 3-0 loss to Man United in December, and has only made four appearances as a substitute this year.

He represented France once at U-21 level before declaring his senior allegiance to Mali, and has gone on to earn four caps since making his debut last year. He made 65 appearances over three years for Clermont Foot before securing the transfer to the Premier League.
