Chelsea goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer has said that he is happy and ready to replace the injured first-choice keeper Petr Cech, according to Sky Sports.

The Australian came on 18 minutes into his side’s Champions League semi-final first-leg at Atletico Madrid after Cech landed awkwardly and suffered a dislocated shoulder.

With Cech expected to be out for the rest of the season, Schwarzer will now be relied upon to fill in for the first-team despite having little playing time since arriving at the club last summer.

"I'm getting used to this whole thing of sitting out and being ready to play," said the veteran. "It's always a tough thing to do but I didn't really have a chance to think about it, I just went out there and did my job.

"Everyone was up for it, as you'd expect, and we've got world-class players here. We knew that if we could match their determination, our quality would shine through. We didn't create too many chances but I think we did a good job."

The 41-year-old helped the Blues to a 0-0 draw against Atletico Madrid, keeping a clean sheet to give Chelsea hope for the return leg.

Now Schwarzer wants his side to push on and play with confidence in the second-leg at Stamford Bridge.

"We will go into the game at home with the self-belief and confidence that we have done pretty well at home in the Champions League,” added Schwarzer.

"We believe we can play better than we did."
