Man Utd lining up Cavani move
Manchester United hope to have Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani signed and sealed before the World Cup, the Daily Telegraph has reported.
United sacked manager David Moyes on Tuesday and installed player-coach Ryan Giggs as his interim replacement, but it is claimed that £60m of the summer’s £150m transfer kitty has been put aside for the Uruguay international.
Louis van Gaal is the favourite to be installed as the next full-time United boss and it is said that the groundwork will be laid for the summer transfer window while a new manager is identified. Among the names mentioned as potential signings are Porto defender Eliaqum Mangala and midfielders William Carvalho and Toni Kroos.
Cavani has only been at PSG for one season following a move from Napoli last summer. He cost the Ligue 1 leaders just over £52m but is said to be disgruntled at being viewed as secondary to Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Luke Shaw and Cesc Fabregas are said to be further targets, along with Cavani, who scored 104 goals in 138 games for Napoli in his three years at the club.
