Swansea vs Aston Villa - Premier League preview and team news

Friday 25 April 2014

Swansea City and Aston Villa meet on Saturday in a game where a win for either is likely to effectively secure Premier League survival.

The penalty which was scored by Wilfried Bony in the dying minutes at Newcastle United last time out was a massive goal for Swansea, who are now within touching distance of beating the drop, and with a reasonably favourable run-in. Performances have improved of late, with Bony now beginning to show his best form, and interim boss Garry Monk will be hoping to finish the season strongly.

A goalless draw against Southampton in their previous game did at least offer Aston Villa a little respite after a difficult few weeks during which results have been far from ideal. The poor form on the pitch is being slightly overshadowed by recent rumours of a takeover and the change in backroom staff, but defeat here is likely to put the club’s future in the top-flight into a little doubt.

For the home side, Miguel Michu has been ruled out with an ankle problem, Chico Flores completes a two-match ban, and Kyle Bartley has a hamstring injury.

Aston Villa are still without long-term absentees Christian Benteke, Libor Kozak and Jores Okore. Left-back Joe Bennett is also a slight doubt.
